Gifter.org
In a post last week about giving, I got tagged by Fred Ngo to pledge some money to gifter. He gifted to Conservation International.

All of you reading this: first, go make a wish!

Gifter is a nifty idea - so here's a $50 for the cause, contributed to MySociety.

Since I'm now afforded a soap box: I heard of MySociety a while back, and only contributed a couple code snippets so far. Their list of projects is amazing. I wish Canada had sites like these to make politics more open and less - well, shitty. Our MP's behave so badly during question period I wonder if we should ban school visits. Banging on desks, shouting, shaming - is this really the best these people can do?

Back to Gifter: it's an experiment, a learning tool for Project Ojibwe (shhh, it's a secret). I'm really curious to see what they've concluded so far, and what they're cooking up next. I believe it falls short by having no forcing mechanisms between donations and wishes. The social comparisons I can think of so far are on the basis of amount given (Fred, my contribution raises you by $15 ;), interesting-ness of receipts (ok, his is way cooler), chosen charity and explanation given.

If project Ojibwe is anything like what I think they're doing, it's going to be incredibly cool and useful.

Nice! Be sure to comment here: http://www.gifter.org/index.php/sponsor-a-wish/ so that the maintainers can add you to the sponsor list... I dunno if trackbacks work with LJ.

I'm new at this, but I believe that when a wish is made, sponsors would

have some way of knowing WHO the person making the wish, feels could

help them-ie their charity; this is why I went through givemeaning.

thanks for your info- it was very interesting----
